Our community is widely recognized as one of the most deprived in the UK. The government's Indices of Deprivation say that our neighbourhood, around Strand Road in Bootle, is among the worst 0.5% in the UK with high levels of unemployment, anti-social behaviour and crime, poor health, educational achievement and housing. Physically, the area is run-down with lots of boarded up buildings and derelict wasteground. Cramped terraced streets sit alongside industrial spaces and there are few green spaces. The area around the canal has been an eyesore for many years and offers little to draw locals or visitors from further afield. Find out how we want to change this area into a vibrant, beautiful community garden that engages locals and draws in visitors, making Bootle a better place to live, work and create.
